Yoon Hye-jin shuts down body-shaming comments: 'Why? What's the problem?'
Former Korean National Ballet principal dancer Yoon Hye-jin responds to netizens judging her physique in recent vacation photos.
Yoon Hye-jin, the wife of actor Uhm Tae Woong and a former principal dancer of the Korean National Ballet, has expressed a firm stance by directly responding to comments evaluating her appearance and body type. While acknowledging the observation that she is "too thin," she questioned the culture of judging others' bodies as fat or thin.

On the 19th, Yoon shared several photos taken at a vacation resort on her SNS. She shared her recent daily life with a casual tone, adding captions such as, "I should do more things that give me many memories every day," and "A close-up shot of my freckles, I like my freckles."
In the photos, Yoon is seen spending relaxing time at a resort wearing pink and black bikinis. Having trained her body through ballet for a long time, her toned physique caught the eye, but the focus of the post was on sharing her daily life of relaxation and self-care rather than her appearance itself.
However, one netizen left a comment regarding her physique, saying, "You're too thin ㅠㅠ." While it could be seen as a short comment of concern or admiration, Yoon did not let it pass and replied directly.
Responding with, "Yes~ I am thin~ So what..?", Yoon then stated, "But I don't think there's a need to judge people's bodies as fat or thin. Let's all just take good care of our own bodies healthily~ Don't cry."
While not denying the fact that she has a thin physique, she drew a line against the perspective that views such a state as something to be evaluated or corrected by others. She pointed out that whether the expression "thin" is intended as a compliment or a concern, it ultimately becomes an act of judging someone else's body from the outside.
What is notable in Yoon's remarks is that she did not present a specific body type as an ideal standard. While admitting she is thin, she used the phrase "whether fat or thin" to warn against the act of judging others' bodies regardless of their body type.
As SNS functions as a space for immediate evaluation of others' appearances beyond being a space for daily self-expression, the bodies of celebrities are becoming even more easily subject to public scrutiny. In particular, for photos where body contours are revealed, such as in bikinis or workout gear, comments regarding weight or body type repeatedly follow, regardless of the original intention of the post.
Yoon's reaction can be seen as a direct target at these characteristics of SNS. She suggests that even if the intention is to worry about health, the method of decisively evaluating someone else's physical condition is not necessarily appropriate. Healthiness cannot be judged solely by outward appearance in a photo, and information regarding an individual's body fundamentally belongs to the individual.
On the other hand, Yoon responded playfully to comments that viewed her positively. When another netizen commented, "You are so charming truly♥♥♥ Why are you so pretty????", Yoon replied, "It's because you see me beautifully, and if you want to see me as ugly, I'll be infinitely ugly ㅎ It's because your eyes are beautiful~ Thank you."
She added her own perspective even to positive evaluations of her appearance. The implication is that the judgment of beauty is not an objective absolute value but can change depending on the perspective of the person looking.
Since her days as a ballerina, Yoon has been in an environment that requires thorough physical management. As ballet is a high-intensity physical activity that simultaneously requires stamina, flexibility, strength, and balance, a dancer's body is not just an object of appearance but a core tool that enables professional expression.
After serving as a principal dancer for the Korean National Ballet, she married actor Uhm Tae Woong in 2013 and has a daughter, Uhm Ji-on. Currently, she continues to communicate with the public through SNS, YouTube channels, and her shopping mall following her broadcasting activities.
In particular, even after marriage and childbirth, Yoon has actively shared her interests and daily life, expanding her activities into various fields beyond the existing boundaries of a "dancer." On SNS, she expresses her voice by revealing a relatively honest daily life, ranging from family stories to travel, exercise, fashion, and beauty.
This recent remark is an extension of that communication style. Moving beyond simply "disliking being called thin," she clearly stated her standards regarding the online culture of easily judging others' bodies.
Ultimately, the message Yoon delivered is not about establishing another standard that a certain body type is more beautiful or healthier. It is closer to suggesting that whether a body is thin or chubby, we should not judge others' bodies recklessly and instead respect each person so they can take care of their own health.
In an era where a single photo on SNS can instantly turn into a forum for judging appearances, Yoon's short reply leaves a clear question: Do we really have the right to judge someone else's body? Yoon effectively returned that question to the commenters with her words: "I am thin. So what?"
