Choi Woo-shik to Play an Independence Activist in 'Goraebyeol,' Opposite Moon Ga-young, with Heo Nam-joon Joining the Cast

Actor Choi Woo-shik has confirmed that he will appear in tvN's new drama 'Goraebyeol,' which is scheduled to air next year. The series is written by Moru Seolsup and directed by Heo Jin-ho and Yoo Beom-sang.

'Goraebyeol' is set in Gyeongseong in 1926 and begins with a love story built around Heo Sua, a maid from a pro-Japanese family, who saves Kang Ui-hyeon, an independence activist, after he falls into the sea. Against the backdrop of a turbulent era, the drama follows young people whose feelings for one another become both a homeland and a love, portraying their intense and radiant romance.

The drama is based on the popular webtoon of the same name. Heo Jin-ho, the filmmaker behind 'Christmas in August' and 'One Fine Spring Day,' will co-direct the series with Yoo Beom-sang, who directed the dramas 'Twinkling Watermelon' and 'Study Group.'

Choi Woo-shik will play the lead role of Kang Ui-hyeon. Kang is an independence activist whose father is pro-Japanese. While carrying out operations for the liberation of his country, he happens to be rescued by Heo Sua, and he comes to regard her as someone precious before falling in love with her. The role of Heo Sua will be played by Moon Ga-young.

'Goraebyeol' has been drawing considerable attention even from the start of filming because Heo Nam-joon, who recently emerged as a rising mainstream actor after taking on his first leading role in the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Brave New World,' has joined the project. In 'Goraebyeol,' Heo Nam-joon plays a character described as a devil, and he has also attracted notice by posting an online photo of himself filming recently with long hair.
