Go Doo-shim on Kiss Scene with Ji Hyeon-u, 33 Years Her Junior: "Approached with a Woman's Emotions"
Actress Go Doo-shim shares the behind-the-scenes story of her provocative kiss scene with Ji Hyeon-u in the film Everglow.
Actress Go Doo-shim revealed honest behind-the-scenes details regarding a provocative kiss scene in a film where she worked alongside actor Ji Hyeon-u, who is 33 years her junior, sharing her philosophy on her acting career. Her statement that she focused on the character's inner self and emotional lines rather than the pressure of a romance that transcends age delivered a deep resonance.

Appearing on the tvN STORY variety program 'Table Tales' broadcast on the 6th, Go Doo-shim shared the process of challenging herself with various works as an actress and her views on acting.
During the broadcast, MC Lee Young Ja mentioned the romance scene Go Doo-shim showcased with actor Ji Hyeon-u, who is 33 years younger, in the film 'Everglow'. At the time, the work garnered significant attention upon release by depicting the special love between Jin-ok (played by Go Doo-shim), a former Jeju Island haenyeo, and a young PD, Gyeong-hun (played by Ji Hyeon-u).
Lee Young Ja asked, "The kiss scene was so shocking. How did you accept it? Wasn't the age difference burdensome?"
To this, Go Doo-shim replied, "What is there for an actor not to be able to accept?" adding, "Looking at him, he was lovely. I don't think I was afraid." Her explanation was that understanding the emotions and narrative of the character was more important than the age gap.
Go Doo-shim also recalled the process of filming the kiss scene. She said, "I don't think I made an NG, but I think Hyeon-u asked to do it one more time. He seemed to want to reshoot because he felt he hadn't captured the feeling he had in mind."
She continued, "The film wasn't just about being in love with Ji Hyeon-u. Although she is a grandmother, she was a woman, and her life was a very pitiful one. Because the emotions collided at that point, it didn't feel that strange."
This means it was not a simple age-gap romance, but a process of expressing the life and emotions of a woman who had endured social prejudice and loneliness for a long time. Go Doo-shim emphasized that as an actress, she focused on expressing the inner truth of the character rather than age or physical conditions.
Watching the broadcast, Lee Young Ja highly praised Go Doo-shim's acting spectrum. She offered high praise, saying, "She seems to be an elusive actress. When you think you know her, you don't, and when you think you don't, you do. She is not a predictable actress. It seems the image we know is not everything."
In response, Go Doo-shim also revealed a conversation she had with lecturer Kim Chang-ok. She brought laughter by sharing, "Lecturer Kim Chang-ok said that after working closely with me on the program for a long time, there are so many points that directors fail to draw out of me that it's a waste. He said it's a waste that you have grown old."
Since her debut in the late 1960s, Go Doo-shim has received national love for decades. She has not remained confined to the title of 'Nation's Mother' but has expanded her territory as an actress through various female characters and deep emotional acting. These recent remarks are evaluated as a demonstration of her firm acting philosophy regarding the essence of an actor and challenges that transcend age.
