Park Ji Hyun Reveals Father's Stomach Cancer Diagnosis During Success of Reborn Rich
Actress Park Ji Hyun shares the emotional story of her father's cancer diagnosis during the peak of her hit drama and her intense preparation for her role in Eun Jung and Sang Yeon.
On the 27th, during the tvN entertainment program 'You Quiz on the Block', actress Park Ji Hyun revealed that her father was battling stomach cancer while her drama 'Reborn Rich' was experiencing massive success.

Park Ji Hyun shared the behind-the-scenes details of her efforts to portray the character Sang Yeon, who is diagnosed with terminal cancer, in the drama 'Eun Jung and Sang Yeon'.
She stated, "I thought, 'How can I feel the pain of a terminal patient even once?' and 'How can I get as close to death as possible?' so I vaguely went on a fast. I lived for about three weeks consuming only water or coffee."
She continued, explaining her extraordinary efforts: "I felt as if my esophagus and stomach were stuck together. My body was getting thinner, but my face felt like it was swelling. During filming, I would even cry for about two hours at the dormitory, wondering how I could make my face swell even more."
She added, "I also studied a lot to change my posture, gestures, and facial expressions."
In particular, she sought advice from her father for the role. She recalled the difficult times, saying, "Since my father is a doctor, I consulted him on certain aspects. While the drama 'Reborn Rich' was airing, my father was diagnosed with cancer. They said they wouldn't know until they performed surgery, so the whole family struggled. My mother, in particular, had the hardest time."
She mentioned that she heard about her father's stomach cancer diagnosis via a phone call from her younger sibling just as the viewership rating for 'Reborn Rich' was steadily rising. "My father suffered from food poisoning, and pus was discovered in his stomach. Since it was so large, he was hospitalized at a university hospital, and while conducting other tests, they discovered it was cancer. He has been getting worse since then. At that time, I thought, 'They are trying to give me one thing and take another away.' It was very difficult for my heart because my father was constantly in pain,"\ she confessed.
After her debut in the 2017 MBC drama 'The King in Love', she appeared in 'Do You Like Brahms?' and 'Yumi's Cells', reached a peak with 'Reborn Rich' in 2022, and continued her momentum with 'Eun Jung and Sang Yeon'.
