'Colony' Becomes This Year's Fastest Film to Surpass 2 Million Admissions. How Far Will It Go?

Director Yeon Sang-ho's new film 'Colony' is showing unstoppable box-office momentum, drawing 2 million moviegoers just five days after its release.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing network on May 26, 'Colony' drew 517,011 viewers on May 25, a substitute holiday, continuing its firm run at No. 1 at the box office. Its cumulative audience stands at 2.01 million. The film surpassed 2 million admissions five days after opening on May 21.
This is the fastest pace among this year's box-office successes, surpassing films such as 'The Man Who Lives with the King,' 'Salmokji,' and 'Project Hail Mary.' It is also one day faster than the pace set by last year's top-grossing Korean film, 'My Daughter Is a Zombie,' when it crossed 2 million admissions. Audience response has been explosive to the newly crafted, evolving K-zombie film from director Yeon Sang-ho, a leading figure in K-zombie cinema with works such as 'Train to Busan' and 'Peninsula.'
'Colony' depicts survivors trapped inside a building sealed off after a mysterious outbreak as they confront infected people who evolve in unpredictable forms. Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, and others star in the film.
