Hwang Jung-min's family-first philosophy resurfaces amid controversy

As actor Hwang Jung-min finds himself embroiled in recent controversies regarding his private life, his past remarks regarding his deep sense of responsibility toward his family and his principles as an actor are drawing renewed attention.

While Hwang is well-known to the public for his intense action performances and powerful characters, interest is surging as his past comments—stating that he has set personal boundaries to be a "father who is not ashamed in front of his family"—are being revisited.

In particular, his past conviction that he "does not film certain scenes because of his children" is being discussed online again in conjunction with the current controversy.

In the KBS2 variety program "Delivered with Stories" aired last October, Hwang appeared alongside actors Jeong Seonghwa and Jung Sang-hoon.

During the broadcast, when Kim Sook asked about his life as a parent, Hwang shared an anecdote about attending his elementary school-aged daughter's sports day.

He brought laughter to the set by saying, "Many of the first-grade parents these days are 10 years, or even as many as 20 years, younger than me," adding, "I feel almost like the principal."

However, the following conversation revealed another side of him as "Dad Hwang Jung-min.'

When Lee Young Ja asked, "I heard you said you wouldn't play bad roles like a gangster because of your children," Hwang carefully explained his standards.

"Since my children were born, I have never filmed suggestive scenes."

While choosing a role is a matter of freedom of expression for an actor, Hwang revealed that he established new standards after becoming a father.

He explained that it was not simply for image management, but because he considered the fact that his children might watch his works one day.

At the same gathering, Jeong Seonghwa also shared Hwang's warm side.

"We have child actors in our musicals, and my favorite actor is Hwang Jung-min. When the children arrive, they run straight to Hwang."

It was noted that although he mainly takes on rough and strong roles on screen, he is an actor who approaches children and colleagues comfortably on set.

The reason this family-first image is being spotlighted again is due to the recent controversy surrounding Hwang's private life.

Recently, a woman claimed to have had a private relationship with him by releasing messages and call recordings exchanged with an individual presumed to be Hwang via her SNS.

In response, Hwang's agency, Sam Company, immediately refuted the claims.

The agency asserted that the individual who wrote the post is a suspect in a stalking crime who has been continuously harassing Hwang, calling it an "intentionally edited post."

They further explained that the court had issued three provisional measures, including a restraining order, and a summary order for a fine of 3,000,000 won was issued after the stalking charges were recognized.

They continued with a firm stance, stating, "We will continue additional legal action against false facts and malicious posts."

However, the woman's side is also refuting these claims, leading to an ongoing legal battle.

The woman is reported to have claimed that she had a private relationship with Hwang for a certain period, and that while there were discussions regarding business proposals and creative matters during the relationship, the relationship was subsequently terminated unilaterally.

As the claims of both sides are in sharp opposition, the facts are expected to be revealed through future legal proceedings.

Separate from this controversy, the "attitude toward family" shown by Hwang in the past is receiving attention once again.

While the nature of his profession requires him to handle any role as an actor, Hwang has maintained his own standards as a father.

As his past remark, "I want to show a side of myself that is not shameful to my child," resurfaces, public attention is focused on the outcome of the ongoing legal battle and how he will navigate this situation.
