Jennie of Blackpink reveals past obsession with looking taller

Blackpink's Jennie has candidly shared the insecurities she felt regarding her physique during her early debut days and the process of overcoming them. Even for the current Jennie, who has established a signature style through glamorous performances and fashion, there was a time when she felt an obsession to hide her small stature and appear taller.

Fashion magazine Cosmopolitan released a pictorial and interview with Jennie on the 3rd. Marking her 10th anniversary since debut, Jennie looked back on her journey and spoke about how her attitude toward her body and mind has evolved.

Jennie described it as, "I am in the process of becoming friends with my body."

She confessed, "There were definitely parts that I felt insecure about. Because my stature is quite small, I had an obsession in the early stages of my career to make myself look bigger."

For an idol who must handle countless eyes and cameras on stage, the body is more than just physical appearance. Every element—costumes, choreography, camera angles, and stage presence—is expressed through the body. It appears Jennie also felt the pressure in her early debut days that her small stature might be perceived as a weakness on stage.

However, as time passed, the way she views herself changed.

"Now, I love my body as it is, and I am learning which styles suit my physique best," Jennie said. "I have more confidence in myself than before."

Ultimately, the change Jennie speaks of is less about a physical transformation and more about a change in how she interprets her body. While she once was conscious of external gazes demanding she "look taller," she is now accepting her physique as a unique trait and finding styles that complement it.

This aligns with the current Jennie, who has established herself as a fashion icon. Rather than adding layers to hide her small frame, she creates a unique style by utilizing her proportions and silhouette. In fact, her refusal to hide her physical characteristics has become a key element of her signature fashion sense.

Reflecting on the past year, Jennie also noted, "It has been a truly hectic year."

She confessed, "There was no time to pause, adapt to changes, and fully embrace what 'Ruby' has brought to me."

Last year, Jennie opened a new chapter not only as a member of Blackpink but also as a solo artist by releasing her first solo studio album, 'Ruby.' 'Ruby' set a new personal record for Jennie by reaching number 7 on the US Billboard main album chart 'Billboard 200' and recorded number 83 on the main single chart 'Hot 100.'

Last month, she continued her solo activities by releasing the new song 'Less Than a Lover.'

The girl who was once conscious of her small stature and felt she "had to look taller" is now learning to embrace her body exactly as it is.
