Tablo reveals constant scolding from wife Kang Hye-jung over messy habits
Epik High's Tablo shares how his extreme creative focus clashed with wife Kang Hye-jung's meticulous tidiness, leading to domestic friction.
Epik High's Tablo has shared anecdotes of repeated marital arguments caused by the starkly different lifestyle habits between him and his wife, actress Kang Hye-jung. The extreme personalities—Kang, who is meticulous about tidying up, and Tablo, who used to immerse himself solely in his craft—clashed, leading Tablo to confess that he eventually had to change his habits for the sake of household peace.

On the 18th, Tablo recalled his past experiences while discussing relationship concerns posted on an overseas online community in a video uploaded to his YouTube channel.
Sympathizing with a story that suggested, "Clean your house before inviting a date over," Tablo noted the individual differences regarding cleanliness, saying, "To that person, that might be clean. It's cleanliness by their standards."
He then confessed that his past was much more extreme than it is now.
"I was really messy in the past. It was much worse than this. It was at a level that was problematic," Tablo stated. He explained that during his college years, he spent all his time on creative activities such as composing and writing, leaving virtually no time for cleaning.
"I am only enthusiastic and hardworking about the things I like," he said. "I wanted to use all my remaining time for creation. As a result, I didn't spend a single moment of that time on cleaning."
The problem became fully apparent during his second year of university. At the time, Tablo's roommate had to pass through Tablo's room to get to his own and had to witness the state of the room worsening over time.
Recalling that he considered himself an "artist" back then, Tablo said, "I couldn't care about things like the world. I only focus on this. I thought I had to change the world with the poems or novels I write."
Eventually, the roommate judged that the state of Tablo's room was severe and requested help from the school. Tablo said this incident served as the first time he was able to look at his own life objectively.
"At first, I thought, 'It's not that bad.' But looking at the room again and looking at myself, I even thought, 'I hate myself so much. I'm truly disgusting. Shouldn't I be arrested?'"
Tablo confessed that although he tried to fix his cleaning habits afterward, it wasn't completely resolved. He said that even after living cleanly, the room would repeatedly become a mess again, sometimes worsening to a "public nuisance" level, as he described.
The person who brought a decisive change to Tablo's lifestyle was his wife, Kang Hye-jung.
Tablo revealed that after marrying Kang, he was shocked because their lifestyles were so different. In particular, Kang was extremely thorough about organization.
"To tell you how well Hye-jung organizes, it was to a degree that I simply couldn't understand at the time," Tablo said.
He noted that even when putting drinks or yogurt in the refrigerator, she would designate separate compartments and ensure all labels faced forward; she even remembered the exact locations of every item in the house.
"I know exactly which pin is in which drawer in which area of the house," Tablo said with a laugh. "When I realized this after getting married, I said, 'Ah, XX.'"
He added that Kang must have felt a similar shock while watching Tablo's lack of organization.
"Watching my room gradually fall apart, Hye-jung probably thought, 'Oh, what have I done?'"
The extreme difference in their lifestyle habits naturally led to marital conflicts.
Tablo confessed his habit of frequently losing things, saying, "Almost 100% of the times Hye-jung yelled at me were because of that."
Not only would he be unable to find his cell phone, but there were also instances where AirPods were found in random places or his pet dog was found holding his belongings.
Tablo drew laughter by saying, "If you leave me alone for just one week to do music or creative work, my room returns to how it was in my second year of university."
He revealed that he initially tried to justify the state of his room to Kang, who demanded organization.
"I said, 'I know where everything is. I have my own system. My brain works differently than yours. I have to do it this way for work to get done.' Honestly, it was complete nonsense."
However, amidst the repeated conflicts, Tablo eventually admitted that his logic did not work in real life.
"I'm always looking for something. I can't find something. I haven't even left the room, but I lose things inside it."
Eventually, he began to think, "Is this really something worth fighting about?" and decided to gradually adjust to Kang's way of life.
"I thought it would be better to try to accommodate Hye-jung even just a little. So I started cleaning and organizing more," Tablo stated.
Through their marriage and family trips, he said his habits have gradually changed as a result of this "training." Despite being scolded countless times by Kang, he acknowledged his issues and worked to correct them.
Tablo's confession goes beyond a simple marital anecdote. Marriage is not always about finding someone identical, but is often a process of re-examining the lifestyle habits one has always been accustomed to.
While Tablo ignored order to immerse himself in creation, Kang maintained life through daily order. Their conflict was ultimately resolved not by one person forcing the other to submit, but by both adjusting to one another.
Tablo married Kang in 2009, and they have a daughter, Haru Lee. Their long marriage has been built not just on romance, but on the constant coordination of small daily matters, from where objects are placed to how clean the room is.
