Hwang Bo-ra questions parenting after son spits at grandmother

Actress Hwang Bo-ra reflected on her parenting methods after facing an unexpected outburst from her two-year-old son. Having let go of the pressures of parenting by spending time in nature, Hwang faced the reality of urban life as soon as she returned to Seoul, questioning herself, "Did I raise him without manners?" after witnessing her son spit at his grandmother.

On the 18th, a video titled "Should we live here? Hwang Bo-ra's last summer vacation as she doesn't want to go back to Seoul | Kim Yong Gun's villa, realistic parenting" was released on Hwang Bo-ra's YouTube channel 'Hwang Bo-ra Boreaty.' The video captures Hwang spending her summer vacation at actor Kim Yong Gun's villa in Yangpyeong County with her family.

The family enjoyed playing in the valley, grocery shopping, and spending relaxing time in nature through various activities with the child. For Hwang, who had escaped the tight schedules of the city, this time held a meaning greater than a simple vacation.

Hwang confessed that parenting in Seoul and in nature is significantly different.

"It is slightly different from life in Seoul," she said. "In Seoul, I wonder how I will play with him or how I will pass the time if he doesn't go to daycare on Saturdays and Sundays. But here, we enjoy leisure without time constraints."

She added, "The obsession also disappears."

Unlike urban parenting, where one must constantly worry about what to do for the child, she felt satisfaction in the fact that in nature, one can spend the day without special programs or plans.

This experience brought more fundamental contemplations to Hwang.

"I wonder if I should live here before the child enters elementary school? I wonder if I should live in the quiet nature," she said. She began to consider a new option between the convenience of Seoul and a life living in harmony with her child in nature.

However, the vacation ended, and Hwang returned to the reality of parenting in Seoul.

After returning to Seoul, the video shows Hwang's parents looking after her son, U In-hui. During this time, an unexpected situation occurred when U In-hui suddenly spat in his maternal grandmother's face.

Hwang immediately restrained the behavior, saying to the child, "You won't do that anymore, right?" The maternal grandmother also settled the situation by responding to the child, "You won't do it."

While it might be a momentary prank for a child, Hwang did not take it lightly.

Through the video subtitles, she confessed, "It made me reflect on whether I raised him without manners."

Triggered by a single action from a child at the young age of two, she looked back at her entire parenting attitude. In particular, the question of how far parents should allow a child's behavior and when to set clear boundaries is a challenge repeatedly encountered during the parenting process.

Hwang's reaction did not stop at simply scolding the child. While correcting the behavior, it led to a parental self-check: "Could it be that I taught him incorrectly?"

For Hwang, who had previously mentioned that "the obsession disappears" while experiencing parenting in nature, this incident left another meaning. It made her contemplate what kind of balance a parent should strike between giving a child sufficient freedom and teaching social rules regarding consideration for others.

Ultimately, what Hwang faced was not just the issue of the living environment—whether to raise the child in Seoul or in nature—but was closer to the essence of parenting: how to teach boundaries and autonomy to a child.

Hwang is married to Kim Young-hoon, the son of actor Kim Yong Gun and brother of actor Ha Jung-woo, and they have a son, U In-hui.
