Hwang Bo Ra furious with husband for drinking before egg retrieval

Actress Hwang Bo Ra has candidly shared the realistic conflicts she experienced with her husband, Kim Young-hoon, during their desperate attempt to conceive a second child.

In a video released on her YouTube channel on the 4th, Hwang revealed the IVF process she restarted after discovering a "miracle follicle." Having previously halted the process due to side effects during a prior attempt, she decided to pursue this final one-year challenge after being diagnosed with the perimenopausal transition.

The unexpected news of the follicle brought great hope to Hwang. "I wasn't even expecting it, so I couldn't believe it when they suddenly said there was a follicle," she said, expressing her overwhelming emotions. "U In-hui is currently overloaded with childcare, and I feel like I'm going to cry.""

However, the joy was short-lived, as the preparation for IVF became a continuous cycle of pain. Hwang had to endure physical changes from daily hormone injections and carried extreme tension and pressure ahead of the egg retrieval.

During this process, a conflict arose with her husband. Hwang confessed that she became very angry upon learning that Kim had consumed wine the day before the egg retrieval.

"I had been telling him to reduce his alcohol intake for about three days and specifically told him not to drink until the day before the retrieval," she revealed. "But when I called him, he said he had a glass of wine. I was so angry that I yelled at him, asking, 'What are you even doing?'"

IVF places a significant physical and mental burden on women. Hwang's resentment boiled over when comparing her situation—enduring daily injections and physical changes—to her husband's preparation, which seemed relatively light by comparison.

Recalling the moment, she shared with a mix of laughter and sincerity that the household was in chaos as she shouted, "I'm not doing it. I'm not having a second child," adding, "I told him that if an embryo isn't formed today, I'll blame it on the father.""

She also highlighted the realistic tension regarding Kim's sperm collection, saying, "The sperm status comes out today. If the status isn't good, I plan to nag him relentlessly.""

Fortunately, Hwang confirmed successful results from the egg retrieval, which was performed under sedation, and shed tears of relief.

Hwang's confession goes beyond a simple story of pregnancy preparation; it illustrates the realistic worries and emotional weight experienced by couples waiting for a child. As welcoming a new life cannot be achieved through the sacrifice of only one person, it highlights the importance of understanding and enduring the process together.

Hwang married Kim Young-hoon, the son of actor Kim Yong-gun and younger brother of Ha Jung-woo, in 2022. They welcomed their first son, U In-hui, last year.
