Gong Hyo-jin defends Jung Jun-won amid attitude controversy

Following the controversy regarding actor Jung Jun-won's attitude after his appearance on 'Hangout with Yoo,' fellow actress Gong Hyo-jin has stepped forward to personally clarify the situation. While his stiff expression and passive demeanor on the show were perceived by some as a lack of sincerity, the explanation is that he was actually suffering from extreme tension and pressure, which even caused his physical condition to deteriorate.

On the 4th, Gong shared a screenshot from the MBC variety program 'Hangout with Yoo' on her social media. The photo captured Jung, who appeared alongside her, looking tense with his eyes tightly shut.

Along with the photo, Gong wrote, "My husband really vomited after the recording..." She added, "I'm sorry I couldn't save you," conveying just how much pressure Jung felt during the broadcast recording.

This is interpreted as an indirect clarification regarding the controversy over Jung's attitude raised by some viewers after the broadcast.

Previously, Jung appeared with Gong on the episode of 'Hangout with Yoo' aired on the 1st, marking his variety show debut. During the episode, Jung participated in a short-form drama special segment to perform an acting mission, but due to nervousness, he struggled to speak and appeared passive.

Yoo Jae Suk tried to lighten the mood by giving him another chance, but Jung maintained a stiff expression, leading some viewers to react by questioning, "Isn't his attitude toward the broadcast lacking?"

However, opposing interpretations emerged following the broadcast. Opinions were voiced that an actor with little variety experience felt extreme tension in a variety show setting that felt close to a live broadcast, and that labeling this as 'insincerity' is excessive criticism.

In particular, Haha, who also appeared on the show, defended Jung through his remarks on the 3rd.

Haha requested, "Since he is not a professional entertainer, please view him cutely," adding, "I just hope he can enjoy the variety show experience." This implies that even from the perspective of a variety veteran, Jung's behavior was perceived not as an issue of attitude, but as tension stemming from an unfamiliar environment.

Jung is currently working alongside Gong in the MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Married Woman Killer.' In the drama, he plays the role of Kwon Tae-seong, the husband of Yoo Bo-na (Gong), serving as a key figure in the story.

This controversy serves as an example of how much psychological pressure appearing on a variety show can place on an actor.
