Jeong Bo-seok recalls stock investment nightmare after being scammed by major shareholder

Actor Jeong Bo-seok candidly shared his experience of suffering heavy losses after being scammed during a past stock investment.

On the 5th, a video titled 'The Day I Met Jewelry-jung Senior and Was Summoned to the Past' was released on the YouTube channel 'Hwang Jung-eum'.

During the appearance, Jeong recalled the time when he and his wife were deeply immersed in stock investing, saying with a laugh, "It was to the point where my wife and I were competing to see who could lose more."

However, the story that followed was bitter.

Jeong recalled, "When I talked about investing to a friend, they introduced me to someone else. They told me they would provide information that could recover all the money I had lost so far in one go."

He revealed that he invested in the recommended stock, but the share price began to plummet immediately after his purchase.

"When I asked why it was falling so much, they told me not to worry, saying it was just a process of shaking off retail investors. They even told me that now was the opportunity and to 'average down,' so I even made additional purchases."

However, the situation worsened.

"Later, I realized the major shareholder was continuously selling stocks," Jeong said. "As it turned out, the person who had me introduced was that very major shareholder. It was a process of transferring their holdings to individual investors."

He continued bitterly, "In the end, they lured in retail investors to dump their volume and then escaped. They targeted the psychology where people want to recover their principal once they suffer a loss."

Ultimately, the stock price hit the lower limit day after day.

Jeong conveyed the shock of that time, saying, "From a certain day, it was the lower limit, and then the lower limit again."

When Hwang Jung-eum asked, "How much was the loss?", Jeong smiled and replied, "I'm not telling you that," but it allowed one to guess that the wound at the time was not small.

He cited his acting career as the reason he was able to endure the difficult period.

"Although there were hard times, the reason I was able to not break down completely was because there was steady work," Jeong said. "It has been 40 years since my debut, and thankfully, I have continued my work in productions without resting for even a single year."

He expressed his gratitude for his long career as an actor, adding, "The fact that I could continue to work was my greatest strength."
