Kim Shin-young, Drunk, Scolded Seolhyun: “Aren’t You Going to Greet Me?” It Turned Out to Be a Standee

Korean comedian Kim Shin-young revealed a memorable drinking story in which she once scolded what she believed was Seolhyun for not greeting her, only to realize later that she had been arguing with a promotional standee featuring the former AOA member.

On June 19, Kim appeared on comedian Kim Young-chul’s YouTube channel and recounted the episode. She explained that after drunkenly confronting the standee, she woke up the next day with flashes of memory and ended up calling the real Seolhyun to apologize.

Kim said she is currently abstaining from alcohol and spoke candidly about how severe her drunken behavior had been in the past. “My drinking habits were so bad that I quit alcohol,” she said. “In the past, I was the worst kind of person. I would drink and scratch at doors until they opened. Even when my fingernails were completely gone, I had no memory of it at all. My friends told me they were terrified.”

Asked about the drinking incident that remained most vivid in her mind, Kim brought up the day she fought with a standee carrying an image of Seolhyun, who was known as a member of girl group AOA.

Looking back, Kim said she had been drinking near the Konkuk University entrance area when she spotted what she thought was Seolhyun. “I saw Seolhyun and scolded her, saying, ‘Your unnie is here. What are you doing, not even saying hello?’” Kim recalled. “But it was not Seolhyun. It was a standee. I was a complete kkondae.”

Kim said the realization came only after she woke up the next morning. “Scenes started coming back to me little by little, like camera film,” she said. “I thought, ‘Wow, I’m crazy. Seolhyun, I’m sorry,’ so I called her right away.”

According to Kim, Seolhyun was confused by the apology. “She said, ‘What are you talking about?’” Kim recalled. “So I asked, ‘Did unnie drink a lot and call out to you?’ Then Seolhyun said, ‘We’re in the middle of AOA’s Hong Kong tour right now.’” Hearing the story, Kim Young-chul laughed and said, “From Seolhyun’s point of view, that must have been incredibly funny.”

Kim also shared another alcohol-related anecdote involving senior colleague Song Eun-yi. She said Song once told her, “You should learn how to drink from adults. I think you learned it wrong.” Kim replied, “I learned it from my grandmother,” drawing laughter once again.
