The fallout from the controversy surrounding YouTuber Park Wi has persisted for nearly a month. Following the release of CCTV footage showing a fall during his KTX disembarkation, Park apologized and entered a hiatus. Now, as his past broadcast appearances are being set to private, the ripples surrounding Park are expanding beyond his personal YouTube channel into the realms of broadcasting and the public sector.

It has been confirmed that Park's appearance on the CBS program 'Time to Change the World, 15 Minutes' (hereafter 'Sebasi'), titled 'How to Live a Miraculous Life,' which originally aired on October 1, 2019, has recently been set to private. The program is a content series that invites figures from various fields to give lectures, and Park had previously shared messages about his journey of overcoming disability and his outlook on life.

However, the direct reason for the video being set to private has not been officially confirmed. While some are interpreting this in connection with Park's recent controversy, it is difficult to conclude that this is a measure taken due to the controversy, as the 'Sebasi' production team has not disclosed the reason for the privacy setting. Nevertheless, the fact that his past content is being re-examined following the controversy itself highlights the shift in Park's public image.

The starting point of the controversy was the KTX fall accident video released by Park through his YouTube channel 'Wheracle' on August 21. Previously, on August 14, while disembarking from a KTX, Park experienced an accident where his wheelchair caught on the foot of a social service agent who was assisting him while using a wheelchair-accessible ramp.

Park explained that the video was intended for the public interest to raise awareness about mobility environments and safety issues for people with disabilities to prevent similar accidents from recurring. However, the video captured the image of the social service agent who was at the scene, leading to online criticism that he had essentially publicly called out the mistake of a worker who was trying to help. In particular, as it was revealed that the individual involved had apologized on-site, the debate intensified regarding the method and scope of releasing the video.

The core of the controversy was the boundary between 'raising a public interest issue' and 'exposing an individual's mistake' rather than the accident itself. While the public agenda of disability mobility rights and a safe transportation environment is certainly worthy of social discussion, if the process of raising such issues increases the identifiability of a specific individual, the method of public reporting must inevitably become subject to ethical review.

As criticism intensified, Park deleted the video and apologized. He stated that he had failed to sufficiently consider the position of the worker, who had done his best to help and had apologized politely, and admitted that his method of delivery was immature as he only perceived the accident negatively at the time.

However, the ripples did not subside even after the apology. Scheduled lectures and talk concerts were canceled in succession, and he eventually stepped down from his position as an ambassador for the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Park was appointed as an ambassador for Seoul last June alongside his wife, Song Ji-eun, with an original term lasting until June 2027, but he submitted his resignation to signify a period of self-reflection following the controversy.

His activities held significant meaning in that they did not confine disability to an individual tragedy but expanded it to the issues of daily life and social relationships.

For this reason, the current controversy is being received more heavily than a simple 'YouTuber's mistake.' This is because a gap has emerged between the public interest image he had built and his judgment during the actual content production process. Especially for individual media operators with large subscriber bases, the stages of self-censorship and ethical judgment before content release are even more critical than for traditional broadcasters or public institutions.

Park's decision to halt public activities follows this same logic. He canceled scheduled lectures and resigned from his role as a Seoul Metropolitan Government ambassador to enter a period of self-reflection. It has also been reported that his YouTube channel 'Wheracle' is seeing a loss of subscribers from its previous 1,000,000 base.

However, the indiscriminate re-evaluation of past content or the expansion of criticism to his family is a separate issue. It is necessary to distinguish between criticism of the actions in question and excessive personal attacks.
