Yang Sang-guk Explains Attitude Controversy: 'If You Don't Act Up, They Won't Cast You'

On the 1st, during TV Chosun's 'Love of Joseon,' comedian Yang Sang-guk, who recently became embroiled in controversy regarding his perceived poor attitude, appeared to explain the background of the situation.

Yang Sang-guk met with his colleague Park Young-jin. Park Young-jin expressed concern, saying, "You've been through a lot. It's been hard lately, hasn't it? I haven't had much experience with such things, so I'm not sure what advice to give. However, the Yang Sang-guk I know would likely be blaming himself after hearing stories like that."

Yang Sang-guk revealed he has been struggling emotionally, stating, "This is a first for me as well, so there are difficult parts. It's the first time I've received this much love, and the first time I've received this much criticism. It would be a lie to say it isn't hard."

Yang Sang-guk expressed his professional difficulties: "Comedians weren't cast if they didn't say a single word or act up on broadcast. I had a greed to be funny during the rare opportunities I caught. Because of that, I overdid it and made mistakes. I am struggling with knowing how far I should go."

The MCs expressed agreement with Yang Sang-guk's opinion, sharing their own concerns: "I feel the same way all the time," and "If you follow the lines too strictly, it's not funny."

Kim Gook Jin encouraged him, saying, "Through such processes, you aren't just keeping the lines, you are expanding them. Sang-guk will have grown more through this experience."

Park Young-jin provided an answer: "There is no right answer in comedy. We don't know what will be funny, but we try to provide as much laughter as possible. However, if the public finds it uncomfortable, then that is the right answer. We are in a profession that lives on the love of the public."

He then asked if he had handled the aftermath, saying, "Did you speak well with Yoo Jae Suk sunbae? Did you also talk things through with Hae-jun?"

Yang Sang-guk announced that he had settled things well, saying, "We are getting along very well. I addressed what needed to be addressed and apologized for what needed to be apologized for. I should apologize for my mistakes and do better again."
