Lee Han-wi Reveals Love Story with Wife 19 Years Younger: "She Contacted Me First Asking for Delicious Food"

On the 17th, during the MBC variety program 'Radio Star,' actor Lee Han-wi clarified the misunderstandings surrounding him while revealing the love story with his wife, who is 19 years younger.

Regarding the nickname 'National Thief' he earned after getting married, Lee Han-wi shared both the pros and cons, saying, "When I got married, the 19-year age gap was quite sensational. As I showed that we were living well, perceptions of marriages with large age gaps seem to have changed a lot. As someone who has had such a marriage, I feel sympathy for my juniors. It's not that there is no generation gap. The songs we can sing together are different, and sometimes conversations aren't easy either."

Recalling how he first met his wife, he reminisced about his time appearing in the KBS1 drama 'Immortal Admiral Yi Sun-sin,' stating, "I originally heard it was a role that would appear until the end, but at some point, I naturally disappeared."

He continued, "After the drama ended, I received a contact from my current wife. At the time, she was working in the drama's makeup team and asked, 'Sir, you said you would buy me something delicious, what happened?' In the end, we got married, but it wasn't me who made the first move. It was just an acquaintance formed by buying her delicious food a few times," creating an atmosphere that his wife was the one who approached him first.

When the MCs asked if he hadn't approached her first, Lee Han-wi entered a serious mode, asking, "Is that how humans act? There is a 19-year age difference; would I really make the first move?"

He revealed that even after confirming his wife's feelings, he couldn't easily accept them due to the age gap. "After watching for about 3 to 4 months, I realized she seemed to like me. So, in hopes that she wouldn't, I tried to persuade her, scold her, and dissuade her. Finally, to make her lose interest, I asked, 'Could you even marry me?' To which my wife replied, 'Why not?'" expressing his wife's assertiveness and affection for him.

He shared the marriage process, saying, "The moment I heard those words, I felt like I was hit on the head with a toy hammer. I was dazed for about 5 seconds, and then I said, 'Then let's start.'"

Boasting about his happy family, he said, "The children have become seniors in high school, freshmen in high school, and ninth graders. People are surprised that it has already been that long. I am getting along well with my family." He married his wife in 2008 and has one son and two daughters.
