Son Tae-young explains why she adopted a dog facing euthanasia
Actors Kwon Sang-woo and Son Tae-young share a heartwarming story of adopting Chopa, a rescue dog saved from euthanasia.
Actors Kwon Sang-woo and Son Tae-young have shared a heartwarming update after welcoming a rescue dog, who was facing the threat of euthanasia, into their family. Moving beyond simple foster care to full adoption, the story of the couple and their children embracing a new life is drawing significant attention.

On the 2nd, a video titled 'The Reason Why Son Tae-young ♥ Kwon Sang-woo Adopted an Abandoned Dog (Chopa's Story)' was released on Son Tae-young's YouTube channel, 'Mrs. New Jersey Son Tae-young.'
The video captures Son Tae-young personally bringing Chopa, the rescue dog, from an airport in New York this past April.
Heading to the airport to meet Chopa, Son Tae-young smiled, saying, "He is such a precious guest that I had to come and pick him up myself." She then added a joke that brought laughter, saying, "I don't even go to the airport to meet my husband when he comes to the US."
However, the path Chopa traveled was by no means ordinary.
Chopa was rescued this past January just before euthanasia and formed a connection with Son Tae-young while searching for a new family. Although Son Tae-young initially brought Chopa home for foster care, the entire family developed a deep bond in a short amount of time.
In particular, Kwon Sang-woo, their two children, and even their existing pet cat, Bella, naturally accepted Chopa. After approximately three months of fostering, the family ultimately decided on a formal adoption.
"As soon as Chopa arrived, he adapted just like our own house dog," Son Tae-young said. "He is so gentle and listens so well."
Kwon Sang-woo also shared how Chopa is opening his heart to the family, noting, "He hasn't 100% accepted human touch yet, but he is getting closer little by little."
The decisive factor in the decision to adopt was the reaction of the children.
Son Tae-young revealed, "I was thinking about adoption from the very beginning. My second child thought it was a given that Chopa would come to our house. The eldest child also seems to have grown very attached, crying and begging not to let him go."
Ultimately, Chopa became a permanent family member rather than a temporary guest.
Kwon Sang-woo laughed, saying, "I never imagined our house would have both a cat and a dog. We naturally became a large family."
He then joked with Son Tae-young, showing the couple's playful dynamic, "You have no idea how kind he is to Bella and Chopa. I tell him to treat me just like Bella and Chopa."
Son Tae-young expressed her gratitude to Kwon, saying, "It was easy to decide because my husband spoke up so actively."
Rather than the glamorous lifestyle of a celebrity couple, it is their choice to take responsibility for a life and the warm hearts shown by all family members that are capturing the public's attention.
Kwon Sang-woo and Son Tae-young married in 2008 and have one son and one daughter. They currently share their family life while traveling between the US and Korea.
