Jun Hyun-moo Addresses Rumors of High Pay for KBS World Cup Broadcasting

On the 23rd, entertainer Jun Hyun-moo addressed rumors that he received a high appearance fee for joining the KBS World Cup broadcasting team during a broadcast on the YouTube channel 'Yeouido Yuktoe Club'.

Jun Hyun-moo began by saying, “I suddenly ended up doing the World Cup broadcast, so I went because they gave me a great opportunity.” Uhm Ji-in asked, “I was curious about that. You have many broadcasts and earn a lot of money, but then suddenly you're doing the World Cup broadcast. They say KBS has no money, so did they pay you a lot?”

Jun Hyun-moo replied, “Would they have? I am receiving an appearance fee that feels like I've returned to being an announcer after a long time,” indicating that the amount is small rather than large.

Uhm Ji-in asked, “You could earn a lot of money by appearing on other variety shows, so why give all that up to go there?” Jun Hyun-moo explained that he has concentrated his efforts in one place, saying, “You can think of that week as being dead while I move back and forth for the World Cup broadcast. I can't sleep.”

As Uhm Ji-in repeatedly asked why he would go to such lengths for the World Cup broadcast, Jun Hyun-moo revealed that it is simply a meaningful task, stating, “There is a misunderstanding that it's a high fee. That I must have received a lot of money, or that there must have been some kind of deal. But there is not even 1% of that.”

He further expressed his concern that interest in the World Cup is unexpectedly low, saying, “I am telling you this for the first time. The South Korean national team lineup is this good, yet there is no hype. It shouldn't be like this. The majority of the public doesn't even know when it's happening, who they are playing against, or even the rules. No one seems interested.”

He shared his convictions, noting, “Most people around me don't know. And while caster Nam Hyun-jong stands tall as the main face for KBS, the era where only terrestrial broadcasters handled sports broadcasting is over. We must continuously create these opportunities.”
