Shin Bong Sun tricked Kim GuRa to hide identity on 'King of Mask Singer'

Comedian Shin Bong Sun has revealed the meticulous plan she devised to appear as a singer on MBC's 'King of Mask Singer,' which included intentionally skipping recordings to protect her secret identity. She explained that by thoroughly hiding her involvement from the production team and cast, she even caused colleagues to believe she had been dropped from the program.

On the 21st, a video titled 'Solving (Approximately) All the Curiosities of Lovely Junior Shin Bong Sun' was released on the YouTube channel 'Lee Hong-ryeol TV.' During the video, Shin confessed the elaborate tactics she used to conceal her identity during her appearance on 'King of Mask Singer.'

To deceive the cast, including Kim GuRa, Shin intentionally skipped the recording session immediately preceding her appearance. "I intentionally didn't show up, making it look like I couldn't attend due to appearing on a pilot program," she explained. "But because of that, word spread from the higher-ups that I had been cut."

The plan worked more perfectly than expected. When Shin failed to appear at the recording, speculations arose among the cast that she might be appearing as a masked singer, but since she did not show up at all, the ruse held. "When I didn't show up the previous week, everyone was searching for me, thinking, 'Bong Sun is appearing as a singer,' but I really didn't show up," she recalled. "The following week, everyone was truly deceived. I returned to the set after hearing that everyone thought I had been fired."

She prepared her disguise and behavior with equal intensity. Shin stated that she even requested Kim Sung-joo to treat her with the respect given to a teacher, demanding a different attitude than usual, and even altered her posture. Additionally, she used hair extensions to change her physical appearance.

Once on stage, she found it hilarious to watch the cast members fail to recognize her. "I was singing and just started laughing. I was so excited that no one recognized me," Shin said.

While hiding one's identity is a common trope in variety shows, Shin's case was unique in that she engineered the circumstances to the point of being mistaken for an actual departure from the show. To evade the suspicions of colleagues who knew her well, she meticulously altered everything from her attendance and tone of voice to her posture and physical look.
