'Single's Inferno' Kim Go-eun Says Her Former National Soccer Player Father Tried to Discourage TV Work
Kim Go-eun, known from Netflix's 'Single's Inferno 5,' opened up about family pressures and said her father Kim Hyun-soo worried about TV work.
Kim Go-eun, the 26-year-old former Miss Korea titleholder who became widely known after appearing on the Netflix entertainment show 'Single's Inferno 5,' shared a candid account of what has been on her mind during a psychiatric counseling session released through her personal channel on the 13th.
Asked what she works for, Kim pointed first to her family. She said, "I think family is the biggest thing. I want to repay what I received, and I have a strong desire to give them good things as gifts." Her answer revealed a close attachment to her family and a sense that her current efforts are tied to gratitude for the support she has received.
Kim also spoke about feelings that appear to have grown around her place within the family. She said, "No one gave it to me, but I feel like I am on my own. I think that feeling came after my younger sibling was born. My parents are in their 50s, but my younger sibling is in the second grade of elementary school. My older sister also got married early, so I think I started feeling that I wanted to help a little."
Kim is the daughter of Kim Hyun-soo, a former South Korean national team soccer player. She said her father became worried when she began appearing in broadcasting. According to Kim, "When my dad was a soccer player, there were famous people around him, and because he knew there were so many things you have to endure, he told me he wished I would not go on broadcasts." She framed his reaction as concern from a father who understood the pressures that can come with public attention.
She then added a lighter episode from just before her appearance. "About two days before I went on the show at the end, we drank together, and I think he thought I was going on 'I Am Solo.' He watched several episodes of 'I Am Solo' and told me what I should do," she said, drawing laughter with the story of her father's mistaken preparation.
Kim Go-eun won the Mi title at the 66th Miss Korea pageant in 2022.
