Gong Hyo-jin's 'Married Woman Killer' sweeps ratings and OTT despite controversy

MBC's Friday-Saturday drama 'Married Woman Killer,' starring Gong Hyo-jin, has emerged as a new powerhouse, showing an unstoppable upward trend since its early broadcast. In particular, despite controversy regarding the attitude of male lead Jung Jun-won following his appearance on a variety show, interest in the series has actually grown, demonstrating its strength by dominating viewership ratings, buzz, and OTT rankings.

'Married Woman Killer' is an action drama centered on the double life of the protagonist Yu Bo-na (Gong Hyo-jin), who oscillates between being an ordinary working mom and a legendary assassin.

In the drama, Bo-na is an ordinary mother living for her family during the day, but in the past, she was a legendary sniper known as 'Kingfisher.' The series provides unique entertainment by combining the internal struggles of a character caught between her hidden past and present life with spy action and family drama elements.

From the early stages of the broadcast, tension has risen as the relationships between characters surrounding the Christmas sniper incident from 15 years ago, a failed car explosion, and the return of the Kingfisher have rapidly become intertwined.

In particular, the twist revealed at the end of episode 2 has further fueled curiosity about upcoming developments.

It was revealed that Oh Hyun-nam (Ha Yul-ri), a new employee at Durumi Electronics, is the daughter of Oh Man-seok (Kim Won-hae), who was sniped by Bo-na 15 years ago.

To seek revenge for the past incident, Hyun-nam administered poison to Bo-na's husband, Kwon Tae-seong (Jung Jun-won), and then blackmailed him. In response, Bo-na made the extreme choice of drinking the poison herself to save her husband.

As the confrontation between the two women, entangled by the tragedy of the past, begins in earnest, Hyun-nam's true purpose for seeking out Bo-na and the hidden truth of the incident from 15 years ago are expected to emerge as major future conflicts.

However, an unexpected variable occurred outside of the production.

Jung, who plays Tae-seong, became embroiled in an attitude controversy after appearing on the MBC variety show 'Hangout with Yoo' on the 1st for drama promotion, where he appeared passive during an acting challenge.

While some viewers criticized his appearance for seeming insincere, others defended him, noting that the actor, who lacks variety show experience, was simply nervous.

Despite the controversy, interest in the drama has not cooled. Rather, with attention focused on Gong's new transformation, the fast-paced plot, and the genre-specific excitement, 'Married Woman Killer' is maintaining its early hit momentum.
