Namkoong Min uncovers hospital corruption in 'The Husband'

Namkoong Min's pursuit has finally begun to target the reality of a massive conspiracy.

'The Husband' has once again broken its own highest viewership rating by revealing the hospital's hidden, ugly secrets and the true mastermind behind the kidnapping incident. Moving beyond a simple revenge story, a mystery narrative intertwined with money, power, and human desire is unfolding in earnest, driving viewer immersion to its peak.

The 9th episode of the KBS2 weekend mini-series 'The Husband', aired on the 1st, recorded a viewership rating of 7.6% based on Nielsen Korea's nationwide households. This is a new personal record for the series, as the upward trend continues fueled by increasingly intricate twists and Namkoong Min's signature delicate emotional acting.

In this episode, the story depicted Kang Tae-joo (Namkoong Min) discovering traces of a massive manipulation hidden behind the mysterious incidents surrounding him and the kidnapping of Seyoon Ko (Lee Seol).

First, No Man-hee (Kim Dae-myung) received a message from someone saying, "Proceed with the original plan again." He was then sent a photo of the 3 billion won cash bag that had disappeared from Kang Tae-joo's car trunk, implying that he is not just a simple person involved in the case, but someone acting under someone else's instructions.

Kang Tae-joo began investigating the case of Ha Jeong-su (Jeon Kwang-jin), who died of cardiac arrest caused by a potassium chloride injection. He expressed his determination to uncover the truth to the police, stating, "I wanted to ask why they tried to kill Kim Kyeong-ae."

However, the investigation led to even deeper questions. While it was revealed that the owner of the mobile phone number that relayed Kang Tae-joo's movements to the kidnapper Kim Kyeong-ae (Lee Sang-hee) during the kidnapping of Seyoon Ko was Ha Jeong-su, Kang Tae-joo suspected that Ha Jeong-su might not be the real culprit, recalling Ha's words: "I just did as I was told."

In particular, Kim Kyeong-ae, who regained consciousness in the hospital room, confessed, "Both I and my husband were used. By that person," implying that Ha Jeong-su was acting under someone else's orders.

After being cleared of false accusations, Kang Tae-joo returned to the hospital and volunteered to be Kim Kyeong-ae's attending physician despite the opposition of his father-in-law, Go Dong-chan (Jang Gwang). He probed the gaps in the case by asking Kim Kyeong-ae, "I don't understand how Ha Jeong-su could have planned everything alone."

During this process, Kim Kyeong-ae revealed that she had been rejected during the support process for clinical research on fetal stem cells. However, Kang Tae-joo discovered another question here: the possibility that the explanation—that she was rejected simply because she was a former convict—was untrue.

Kang Tae-joo attempted to check the laboratory data, but the documents regarding the clinical research applicants and the selected candidates had disappeared. Ultimately, he requested help from Seyoon Ko, who managed to sneak into her father Go Dong-chan's study and find the hidden documents.

And the truth revealed by those documents was shocking.

The names of the people selected for the clinical research matched exactly with the list of high-value donors displayed in the hospital lobby.

Kang Tae-joo recalled the words his father-in-law Go Dong-chan had said in the past: "I want to give hope to those who have given up." However, the reality was different. He spoke in anger:

"It wasn't hope; money was the standard."

It was the moment the truth was revealed: behind the hospital's pretenses of 'the value of life' and 'research for patients,' money and power were actually seated.

Kang Tae-joo informed Kim Kyeong-ae of the truth, saying, "In the end, it was because of money. You didn't fail; there was simply no place for you, Kim Kyeong-ae, from the start." He followed up by asking, "There was no record of being a former convict anywhere on the application. Who would have told such a lie and why?"

This was not a simple exposure. Kang Tae-joo became convinced that there is a larger mastermind at the center of the case, raising the possibility that Ha Jeong-su is not the main perpetrator of all the evil deeds, but a victim used by someone else.

Meanwhile, another twist emerged. Circumstances revealed that Cha Myeong-hee (Jo Yoon-seo), a junior doctor who had been offering comfort to Kang Tae-joo, was connected to the Ha Jeong-su case.

Jang Do-sik confirmed through CCTV a scene where Cha Myeong-hee says to Ha Jeong-su, "You did well," and during the forensic process of Kim Kyeong-ae's phone, he discovered that the two had been in contact.

Ultimately, Jang Do-sik went to find Cha Myeong-hee and threw a new suspicion by interrogating her, "You know Kim Kyeong-ae, don't you?"

However, the most shocking scene occurred at the end of the broadcast.

Upon hearing that No Man-hee had headed to the hospital, Kang Tae-joo urgently searched for Seyoon Ko. However, No Man-hee had already appeared before her.

Holding a blood-stained hammer, No Man-hee asked with an unperturbed expression, "Ma'am, it's been a long time. Where is President Kang?" As a terrified Seyoon Ko recoiled, he shouted, "Don't move!" before swinging the hammer.

The dramatic ending maximized the tension for the next episode.
