Actor Kwon Kyung-ha was G-Dragon's middle school teacher: 'He was already G-Dragon then'
Actor Kwon Kyung-ha recalls teaching BigBang's G-Dragon in middle school, praising his innate star power and undeniable talent from a young age.
Actor Kwon Kyung-ha revealed that he was the middle school homeroom teacher for BigBang member G-Dragon (Kwon Ji-yong), reminiscing about the artist's exceptional talent and star power that stood out even during his school years. He noted that G-Dragon's stage presence, artistic sense, and innate expressive abilities were distinctly different from his peers since childhood, sharing his sentiment that "stars possess a unique aura from a young age."

On the 8th, a video titled "G-Dragon's Middle School Homeroom Teacher Reveals Kwon Ji-yong Back Then | First Time Revealing Behind-the-Scenes Stories" was released on the YouTube channel 'Lazy Rabbit.' Appearing as a guest, Kwon, who worked as a traditional Korean music artist, shared his special connection with G-Dragon by detailing his experience teaching at Seoul Traditional Music Arts Middle School (now National Traditional Arts Middle School).
Kwon stated, "While working at Seoul Traditional Music Arts Middle School, I personally taught student Kwon Ji-yong from his first to third year of middle school," adding, "He was a student I served as homeroom teacher for all three years." The host, Yoo Seung-min, could not hide his surprise at this unexpected connection.
Recalling Kwon Ji-yong at that time, he said, "Even back then, he had so much talent and was an exceptionally standout student. His presence among his friends was significant, and he had the power to completely change the atmosphere whenever he stepped onto a stage."
He also vividly recalled performing together during school shows.
"We once put on a production called 'The Wedding Day' with the students, and the role of Sam-dol, which Kwon Ji-yong played, was truly impressive," Kwon praised, saying, "He delivered the acting so naturally and skillfully. His delivery of lines, facial expressions, and stage presence were so outstanding that it was hard to believe he was just a student his age."
He continued, "Whether it was dancing or acting, he lacked nothing. On stage, he was already a student who knew exactly how to express his charm. Looking at him now as a global artist, his image from back then naturally comes to mind."
Kwon also emphasized that G-Dragon was already a famous student within the school long before he achieved his current name.
"Many people may not know, but even back then, Kwon Ji-yong was very famous within the school," he explained. "Whenever school festivals or various performances were held, he never missed a chance to take the stage, dance, and lead the performances. Not only the students but even the teachers recognized his talent."
He added, "From his student days, he had such a clear individual color that the expression 'G-Dragon' suited him better than 'Kwon Ji-yong.' His fashion sense was also on a different level from his peers. His clothing style and overall vibe were unique, and his ability to express his individuality was superb."
He also shared an anecdote about another student who performed with him at the time.
"There was a friend who always hung out with Kwon Ji-yong, and looking back, I think that friend was Taeyang," Kwon said. "The memory of the two of them decorating the stage together at every school event remains vivid even now."
"He participated in school performances without fail for three years. That passion and sincerity were also impressive," he added. "I believe those who become stars are not just exceptionally talented, but also possess an attitude of consistent effort."
Kwon also mentioned G-Dragon's upbringing. He evaluated, "I believe his mother's dedicated support was a great strength in making the current G-Dragon possible. It seems he was able to fully unfold his talents from a young age thanks to the interest and encouragement of his parents."
He continued, "While talent is important, the role of the family that supports it is by no means small. Kwon Ji-yong was a student who steadily nurtured his dreams within such an environment."
Finally, Kwon delivered a warm message of support to his long-time student.
"Ji-yong, I feel so proud whenever I see you growing into such a wonderful artist," he said. "It has been a long time since we met in person, but I am always rooting for you."
He expressed his affection, saying, "I hope that if the opportunity arises, there will be a time when we can meet again with middle school alumni to share old memories. I hope you continue to work as an artist for a long time, presenting great music and performances to many people just as you do now."
G-Dragon began his trainee days after being recognized for his outstanding musicality and performance sense from a young age, later debuting as the leader of BigBang and establishing himself as a representative artist of K-pop. Since his debut, he has exerted unrivaled influence not only in music but also in fashion and culture, earning consistent love from fans worldwide.
