Eva Popiel, Now a Korean Citizen, Visits Oh Hyeon-gyu's Parents' Restaurant After His Comeback Goal

British-born broadcaster Eva Popiel, who recently became a Korean citizen, visited the restaurant operated by the parents of soccer player Oh Hyeon-gyu after a dramatic World Cup moment for the South Korean national team.

On the 12th, Eva posted on her personal channel about watching her first World Cup match since acquiring Korean nationality. She wrote that she had always cheered passionately for South Korea, but that something changed when the national anthem began. As soon as the anthem played, she said, she felt moved to tears.

Eva also shared how deeply she was affected by the players' performance that day. She wrote, "Thank you to the South Korean players for the great emotion today," and added that she took a celebratory proof shot right away at the restaurant run by Oh Hyeon-gyu's family.

In the photo she revealed, a banner was hanging in front of the restaurant. The notice said the restaurant would be closed from June 8 through June 30 because the family was going to cheer at the World Cup. It apologized to customers who might come in vain and said normal business was scheduled to resume on July 1.

The banner showed that Oh Hyeon-gyu's family had temporarily paused even their livelihood in order to travel to Mexico and support Oh, along with the South Korean national team, in person. Their closure notice made the family's support for the player and the team clear.

Eva added a lighthearted message encouraging people to visit once the restaurant opens again in July, saying everyone should go there to eat when it reopens.

Oh Hyeon-gyu gave South Korea a thrilling victory that day by scoring the go-ahead goal in the 35th minute of the second half against the Czech Republic at the 2026 North and Central America World Cup.

Eva had announced in March that she had acquired Korean nationality, sharing photos from her nationality certificate presentation ceremony.
