Kim Dae-ho braves active volcano despite sudden illness

Broadcaster Kim Dae-ho is demonstrating incredible grit, refusing to abandon his lifelong dream of exploring an active volcano despite sudden health issues.

In the upcoming episode of MBC Every1's 'The Great Guide 3' airing on the 28th, the extreme journey of Park Myeong-su, Kim Dae-ho, Choi Daniel, and Lee Mu-jin to Erta Ale, an active volcano in Ethiopia's Danakil Desert, will be revealed.

During the previous broadcast on the 21st, Kim's sudden health deterioration was captured on camera. While traveling locally, he suffered from severe headaches and nausea, which eventually led to vomiting, forcing a temporary halt to filming.

The production team immediately transported Kim to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment and medical examination. After receiving sufficient rest for one day, Kim rejoined the expedition.

The reason Kim chose to push forward despite the difficult circumstances was clear. Expressing his strong determination toward Erta Ale, he stated, "Since this could be a moment that might be my last in my lifetime, I want to press this experience deep into my heart."

The four members trek toward the active volcano across a desolate landscape of endless black basalt. Faced with a surreal scenery that felt like another planet, Kim marveled, "I feel like I've become the Fellowship of the Ring. It feels like we are entering Mars," while Lee Mu-jin also expressed awe at the overwhelming spectacle, remarking, "The day has come when we see such a pitch-black plain."

However, the path to the summit was far from smooth. As the group drew closer, intense sulfur gases and acrid air overwhelmed them. Choi Daniel recalled the tense moment, saying, "I thought I might die if I breathed it in for too long."

Kim also shared the fear and awe he felt on-site, noting, "It felt like something was piercing the back of my neck immediately. I realized, 'This is an active volcano.'"

Despite the hardships, the four members continued their trek and finally faced Erta Ale. Kim, who has long dreamed of seeing an active volcano in person, reportedly expressed his overwhelming emotions, saying, "I feel like I have entered a fantasy world."

All eyes are on the group as they take on this extreme challenge in Ethiopia's Danakil Desert—one of the hottest places on Earth—and Erta Ale.
