Choi Soo-jong reveals unique parenting philosophy of using honorifics with his children

Actor Choi Soo-jong has once again demonstrated his reputation as the "Nation's Father," following his long-standing status as the "Nation's Husband," by sharing his profound respect and unique educational values toward his children.

Appearing on the KBS1 show "Morning Forum" broadcast on the 28th, Choi spoke candidly about everything from the secret to his unchanging youthful looks to his family life.

During the broadcast, the MCs expressed admiration upon meeting him in person, exclaiming, "You look so young." It was particularly surprising to learn that Choi, born in 1962, is older than former wrestler-turned-entertainer Lee Man-gi, actor Woo Hyun, and actor Song Kang-ho. The fact that Song is 5 years younger than Choi became a hot topic during the show.

Choi cited "self-restraint" as the secret to maintaining his appearance over the years.

"When juniors ask me for the secret, I always tell them it is restraint," he stated. "There are many things I want to eat and many things I want to do for fun, but because the profession of an actor requires memorizing lines and acting, I must manage myself."

He continued by revealing his consistent self-management habits, saying, "I usually exercise and read scripts or books. I am also quite picky about what I eat."

However, the segment that garnered the most attention was his story regarding his two children.

Choi shared photos of his son, Choi Min-seo (27), and his daughter, Choi Yoon-seo (26), born to him and actress Ha Hee-ra. His daughter, Choi Yoon-seo, particularly caught eyes with her striking resemblance to her mother, Ha.

While discussing his children, Choi naturally referred to his daughter as "Ms. Choi Yoon-seo," revealing his special approach to parenting.

He surprised the cast by revealing, "I use honorifics even with my children."

Choi explained that he changed his way of thinking after noticing that his children's speech became increasingly blunt when he used informal language with them in the past.

"The children are not unfamiliar with honorifics. Since it has already become a part of their daily lives, they know that their parents respect them as individual human beings," he said.

This was not merely a matter of etiquette, but a reflection of his philosophy to view his children as independent entities.

Furthermore, Choi shared that his children naturally emulate their parents' lifestyle. He noted, "If parents demonstrate frugality, the children learn accordingly. My daughter even purchases secondhand items when buying clothes."

Despite his glamorous life in the entertainment industry, Choi has emphasized a life of discipline, showing consistent values in his attitude toward his family during this broadcast.

Communication based on respect and leading by example are closely linked to the reasons why he has been beloved by the public for so long.

Choi married actress Ha Hee-ra in 1993. They have one son and one daughter, and he continues to be active in acting and broadcasting to this day.
