Kim Hyeon-sook defends Jung Jun-won against online backlash

As actor Jung Jun-won finds himself at the center of a heated debate due to an "attitude controversy" following his first variety show appearance, actress Kim Hyeon-sook has publicly expressed her distress and appealed for an end to excessive criticism.

On the 3rd, Kim shared an article regarding Jung's appearance on the MBC variety program 'Hangout with Yoo' via her SNS, leaving a short but heavy message: "Ah... since when did the world become like this?"

She continued by empathizing with Jung's position, stating, "He probably needed the promotion, and he likely left because he was told to leave, and he probably did his best in his own way."

She added, "Everyone is entitled to their own impressions. However, just because things didn't go as expected doesn't mean we should resort to insults rather than criticism. Let's all just take a breath and live."

Kim's post is interpreted as an indirect critique of the malicious comments and personal attacks directed at Jung following the broadcast.

The controversy began with the episode of MBC's 'Hangout with Yoo' aired on the 1st.

The episode featured a 'Jjigeoyu' short-form drama special, marking the first variety show outing for Jung, who has recently gained attention through his drama work.

However, having little experience in variety shows, he appeared visibly nervous throughout the filming.

In particular, during the 'One Sentence Challenge,' where participants must act out a single sentence with emotion, he struggled to speak. Observing this, Yoo Jae Suk stepped in to manage the situation by saying, "Let's move on to the next one," after which Jung belatedly said, "I can do it," receiving a second chance.

However, unable to overcome his nerves during the second attempt, he ultimately failed to deliver the line, prompting Haha to induce laughter by throwing his hat in frustration.

Immediately after the broadcast, some viewers reacted by saying, "He lacked sincerity in the variety show," or "His passive attitude was disappointing."

On the other hand, many other viewers defended Jung, commenting, "He is just an actor unfamiliar with variety shows looking nervous," "It is too harsh on someone who froze in an unfamiliar environment," and "This is crossing the line from criticism into ridicule."
