Sechs Kies' Ko Ji-yong reveals divorce; son's letter draws attention

As businessman and former Sechs Kies member Ko Ji-yong belatedly revealed that he divorced his wife by mutual agreement two years ago, social media posts from his ex-wife, family medicine specialist Heo Yang-im, and a handwritten letter from their son, Seung-jae, are drawing renewed attention.

On the 29th, Ko stated via SNS, "I divorced my wife two years ago quite some time ago."

He explained, "The reason I did not disclose this until now was that I wanted to be considerate so that my son, Seung-jae, could fully understand the situation and grow up stably," adding, "Seung-jae is accepting the new relationship between his mother and father well and is living a stable life even now."

He continued, "I will continue to do my best as a father, and although our bond as a married couple has ended, we support each other."

Following the announcement, attention has shifted to Heo Yang-im's SNS. While Heo had consistently shared her daily life, hospital work, and Seung-jae's growth over the years, photos or posts featuring Ko became virtually non-existent from a certain point onward.

In particular, a recent handwritten letter from Seung-jae is being re-examined. While participating in a ski camp in New Zealand, Seung-jae expressed concern for his mother's health in a letter to Heo, writing, "Mom, make sure to eat well by yourself and don't overwork yourself at the hospital."

He also wrote, "Next time, please come with just the two of us."

In response, Heo conveyed her affection, replying, "Mom will also be here, keeping the seats for the two of us."

While these were perceived as a normal conversation between a mother and son at the time, following Ko's announcement, some netizens suggested that expressions like "Mom alone," "the two of us," and "next time, just the two of us" may have been subtle reflections of the family's situation.

However, neither Heo nor Seung-jae mentioned the divorce at the time, and as these expressions are open to various interpretations, they cannot be viewed as definitive proof.

Along with the announcement, Ko repeatedly emphasized that the decision was "for my son."

He stated that he wanted to give Seung-jae enough time to naturally accept the changes in his parents, expressing his intention to continue his role as a parent.

Ko and Heo married in 2013 and had Seung-jae the following year. The family gained popularity by sharing their daily lives on the KBS2 variety program "The Return of Superman." Following the news that the couple began their separate lives two years ago, many are offering their support.
